Poster for Episode 1 3D revealed; Plus First Look at Darth Maul in The Clone Wars!

First we get the poster courtesy of Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox…to be honest, I’m not really a fan of it.  It looks more like a fan made photoshop than a real poster.  I don’t know why they couldn’t have just re-packaged Drew Struzan’s original masterpiece for this, but this is what we got.

It’s not completely awful, but it pales in comparison to the other posters for the series. But it gets far more exciting than this.  It’s been rumored since last season of The Clone Wars (the ongoing Star Wars cartoon) that Darth Maul would be making a comeback.  His brother, Savage Oppress, was featured in 3 of the better episodes last season with a brief tease about him going to seek out his supposedly dead brother Darth Maul.

Well, Entertainment Weekly got the official confirmation earlier that Maul would be making his comeback (with some quick quotes from director Dave Filoni) on the latter half of this season.  They even got an exclusive clip that teases it….And when I say tease, I mean it.  The short clip is mostly a recap of who Maul is by showing scenes from the first movie.  Then it ends with the Clone Wars version of him.

Unfortunately, it’s not embeddable at this moment, but you can check it out at the EW link or on the official Star Wars website.  But if that quick tease isn’t enough for you, I provide you with this look at the character in his Clone Wars iteration, which is much more clear and much more awesome:

Now, if you know anything about me, you know that Darth Maul is my favorite character in the Star Wars universe, so I’m incredibly excited about seeing this.  In my mind his role was too short lived, and really killed the continuity between Episode 1 and 2.  While many fans feel the same, there will undoubtedly be plenty of people bitching about how they’re going to bring him back.

What people need to remember is it’s a sci-fi story where anything is possible, and teddy bears helped overthrow an Empire.  I don’t think it’s that big of a stretch to resurrect one of the most fan favorite characters.
