Prepare for Bloody War in the Second Trailer for 300: Rise of an Empire

I was really hoping for this trailer to blow me away…and it did a pretty good job.  While I’m not over the top excited for the film or anything, I’m way more interested than I was before.  The story elements sound intriguing and go beyond the simple action film that it could easily be.  The action elements look sleek, albiet a tad on the familiar side:

I know they were trying to tie it into Zack Snyder’s original film, but it would have been nice to see the new director utilize his own style as well.  This looks a lot like a carbon copy than anything original.  Not to say that it won’t be good (frankly, I think it looks all kinds of badass), but it would be nice to see someone else’s take on the material.

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.  “300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Artemisia (Eva Green), vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

300: Rise of an Empire hits theaters on March 7, 2014.  What did you guys think of the trailer?  Excited to see this movie?
