At the end of August it was revealed that Ron Howard and Tom Hanks would be re-teaming for an adaptation of Dan Brown’s most recent novle, Inferno (following on from their Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons films), with production set to being in April. The film already had a release date: December 18, 2015. Sound familiar? It’s the exact same date as Star Wars: Episode VII.
When I reported on this news in August, I speculated on Sony pushing the film back, not only due to the short time-frame, but also in order to back itself away from Star Wars. Let’s face it. No matter what, Star Wars: Episode VII is going to be huge at the box office, and anything going against it will be fighting an uphill battle…even Tom Hanks. So unsurprisingly, Sony has announced an official delay of the film. Inferno will open on October 14, 2016.
That’s nearly a year’s delay, but part of that is likely to give both Howard and Hanks plenty of time (they are busy people!). So if you’re looking forward to seeing Professor Langston back on the big screen, you’ve got quite a bit more time to wait.
