We haven’t reported on it, mostly because I wasn’t sure exactly the best way to approach it, but over the last few days Zack Snyder (the Man of Steel director) has made some comments about his upcoming Superman film that makes one believe it is being tied into Justice League. We’ve heard rumors to this effect before. WB is anxious to tie their worlds together (like Marvel did), and reportedly made some changes to Man of Steel to better include it into that plan.
I know, this is a Batman related rumor, but trust me, this all ties in to one another. HitFix is reporting from a ‘reliable source’ that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is currently in talks to portray the caped crusader in the upcoming Justice League movie. More than that, he may also make a quick appearance in Man of Steel!
If that’s true, then that would explain all those reports of Man of Steel trying to tie things together. The ending of The Dark Knight Rises kind of left things open, with the assumption that John Blake (JGL’s character in the film) would be taking up the mantle of Batman, to continue the legacy. Since Nolan has been adamant that his trilogy is over, and WB is already planning a reboot, many felt that meant JGL wouldn’t be the next Batman on film. That may not be the case, and if WB is serious about tying all their worlds together, this would be the easiest way for that to happen.
To be entirely honest, however, I’m not sure how I feel about it. I love Nolan’s trilogy, and almost feel as if it needs to remain separate and on it’s own. On the other hand, the potential to see his legacy continued in another form has my interest piqued. As I said, this is all rumor for now until we get any official information from the studios. Hopefully, that will happen very soon.
