Really, with all of the Tintin talk and Peter Jackson making a ‘surprise’ visit, it’s kind of a surprise to see someone sneak in a Jurassic Park question. It’s not all that surprising considering the buzz the film has gotten as of late.
Just a month or so ago, we reported that Spielberg was meeting with Mark Protosevich (Thor) about ideas for a fourth Jurassic Park. And just a week ago, while promoting Captain America, Joe Johnston talked about coming back to that franchise and his ideas for it. Pretty much, it’s all been about the same stuff we’ve heard for the past decade.
It’s hard for fans to take anything seriously anymore, with all of the heartache we’ve felt. But now Steven Spielberg has let loose and it might be time to get excited for JP4. Speaking to the crowd at the Panel, Spielberg gave a quick update on the film saying that they now have a firm story AND they’ve hired a writer to pen the script!
Sadly Spielberg wouldn’t say who the writer was, but more than likely it’s Protosevich. On top of this, Spielberg said that we’ll hopefully be seeing this movie in the next 2-3 years. While there is still plenty of leeway there, this is more official news on this project than we’ve had in a while. With over a decade of failed scripts and no progress, Spielberg has basically told us that things are finally moving forward.
If the script goes over well, we could see an official announcement/greenlight on this by the end of the year. Perhaps that’s just my wishful thinking, but my gut tells me that Universal is going to jump on it as soon as they can. It is Jurassic Park after all.
