Second Dark Phoenix Trailer Shows the X-Men Divided

Late last night delivered a brand new trailer for Dark Phoenix, which (regardless) will mark the final X-Men film with this particular cast. This latest trailer offers up a better look at the story the film will be taking (obviously it’s not a direct adaptation of the comic story) with a fairly shocking revelation:

Well…this is not a great trailer. In fact, I’m more than a little bummed. Dark Phoenix has had a ROUGH production, and faced plenty of delays, with reshoots that ended up restructuring a bulk of the film. While the first teaser wasn’t bad, I was really hoping this new trailer would blow us away. Sadly, it’s just kinda okay and I think that’s what bums me out the most.

X-Men: First Class is still my favorite X-Men film of the whole bunch, and the cast they assembled for it brought these characters to life excellently. Since Days of Future Past, however, the films have just not been that great and the cast seems squandered. I was hoping the franchise would end on a high note, but I’m not encouraged by what this trailer shows. Hopefully it’s a case of bad editing on the trailer and the film itself is great, but we’ll have to wait and see!

In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite – not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

Dark Phoenix hits theaters on June 7, 2019.
