Everyone generally knows that the first Lantern trailer wasn’t winning many people over. Then the total lack of images and footage caused worry even amongst the biggest GL fans (like me)…But then came WonderCon. The incredible 4 minutes of footage (which made their way online) won over the staunchest bloggers and put faith back in this project. Since then all the TV spots have basically been re-cut footage from WonderCon, which isn’t exactly a bad thing, but people wanted more.
Warner Bros did exactly that. Before you watch this, I want to say that this trailer literally gave me chills. Perhaps its the music (though it’s nothing outside the norm), perhaps it’s hearing Sinestro, Kilowog, and Tomar Re speaking (more than the one liners they’ve had) and instructing Hal, it’s hard to say. Either way, check it out.
While I’m sure not everyone is going to agree with me on it, it’s hard not to see how this trailer wouldn’t convert the skeptics. It really shows off the grand scale of the film and my favorite part is seeing the interactions with all the aliens. These effects look polished. The scenes with Kilowog felt genuine to me and not like I was staring at a CG creature….like the other footage has made me feel. I’m impressed and ready for more.
I still can’t see why so many people are still claiming this film will fail. The VFX are fixed, the story looks appropriately epic, and outside of the one scene where he’s trying to figure out the oath, this trailer showed a far more serious film with no ‘goofiness’. If it works out right, I really think Green Lantern has more potential than all the characters Marvel is bringing to the screen. Guess we’ll see on June 17, 2011.
