We learned a little bit ago that Sony had picked up the rights to develop a movie based on the popular animated series, Robotech, and it looks like they’re not wasting any time in getting the project moving. THR is reporting that they’ve extended an offer to James Wan, and he’s currently in talks to direct:
Wan has the offer and is in early talks to direct Robotech, Sony’s adaptation of the anime featuring giant armored warriors.
Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton are producing the project, which is based on 1980s cartoon series from Harmony Gold USA and Japan’s Tatsunoko Productions. It was re-edited and re-dialogued to combine three Japanese anime series to give the producers enough episodes to air as a daily syndicated series.
The question now becomes…how much can this man take on? On top of being in talks for Robotech, he’s about to start filming The Conjuring 2 (with a 2016 release date). Plus Warner Bros. is trying to snag his attention for the Aquaman movie, and that’s not even mentioning the fact that Universal wants him back for the next Fast & Furious movie. He’s sitting pretty high on the horse right now, and is in the rare position to choose from whatever he wants.
We’ll have to wait and see what he picks up on, but frankly, he’d be great for any of those films! Which movie do you hope Wan goes for next?
