With Amazing Spider-Man 2 doing far less than expected in the box office, we’ve been hearing about a few shake-ups at Sony regarding their Universe plans for the wall-crawler and his spin-off films. There was even some speculation earlier that The Sinister Six would end up getting cancelled altogether. Looks like that’s not true as Sony has set November 11, 2016 as the release date for the super-villain centric film.
Sony originally had a June 2016 release date set for Amazing Spider-Man 3, but they’ve decided to hold off on that, and instead are now releasing it sometime in 2018 (though they haven’t listed a specific date yet). While I enjoyed the second Amazing Spider-Man film, I can understand why a lot of people didn’t. Sony knows that another sequel like before won’t be good for business, so this move makes sense on their part. While I’m bummed, I can’t say I’m surprised.
In other good news, that Uncharted movie we talked about the other day is moving along as expected, since Sony has given the film the June 10, 2016 release date that Spider-Man 3 previously occupied.
Quite a bit of shuffling going on at the Sony camp, but sadly no word on when we’ll be seeing the Venom spin-off (which I’m more interested in than Sinister Six). What do you think of these movements? Personally, I’m wondering why Sinister Six isn’t a Summer film. Seems like that’d be more of a Summer movie blockbuster release than a Holiday time frame.
