It seems as if movie industry is pulling the trigger on as many big name sequels, as possible, before knowing if the initial movie will be a success. Warner Bros. just did it with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. 20th Century Fox even did it with Avatar, despite it consistently being delayed. Now, Disney/Sony seem to be following that method with their newest collaboration, Spider-Man: Homecoming.
During a New York Film Festival interview with WWD, for The Lost City of Z, Tom Holland confirmed that a Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel is currently in the works.
“My next project, I can’t tell you about, but we’ve just finished ‘Spider-Man’ and we’re talking about the second one and who the villain is going to be and where we’re going,”
Holland’s next project could refer to any number of movies, not associated with Disney/Sony. However, one could irresponsibly surmise that he’s speaking toward being in an Avengers movie, before shooting a Homecoming sequel.
As for the villain, the door is wide-open for any number of villains, we’ve already seen, to be rebooted (*cough* Venom *cough*). Although, it’s more fun to consider what villains we haven’t yet seen.
Villains We Want to Debut
Whether or not we actually see these villains remains to be seen. Any number of them could secretly be in the film coming out next year. We already know that Shocker will be involved.
Meanwhile, confirming a Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel may be the most #asexpected moment of the year, it’s still exciting nonetheless.
Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7, 2017, starring Tom Holland, Marissa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr., Donald Glover, & Michael Keaton rumored to be Vulture!
What villain would you like to see?
