In huge news for the MCU, it’s been announced that Taika Waititi has signed on to direct Thor 4, a follow-up to the enormously successful Thor: Ragnarok.
While the news that Taika Waititi will be returning to the world of Thor is excellent to hear, it does come at a price. The live-action adaptation of Akira, which was also meant to be directed by Waititi and was slated for a 2021 release, has been put on an indefinite hold. It’s not clear when or if Waititi will return to the project now that he’s attached to direct Thor 4. It is possible that the director may return to Akira once he’s done with this entry in the MCU, but it’s impossible at this stage to say for certain.
With Chris Hemsworth expected to reprise his role as Thor, it will be exciting to see what Taika Waititi brings to the table with Thor 4.
