Just yesterday I was talking about the power of movie trailers, and it just so happens that we woke up to another powerful example of what a trailer can do. The newest trailer for the second Hobbit film, Desolation of Smaug, is now online and it has sent shivers down my spine, even though most of the footage shown doesn’t seem to actually come from the books!
As I mentioned, there are a lot of scenes in this trailer which actually weren’t in the book, but to be honest, I could care less. Hearing Smaug’s voice was bone-chilling and overall it had a very epic feel to it. While the first film was good, it wasn’t amazing to me either, but by all accounts, Desolation of Smaug is stepping up its game.
The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventures of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theaters on December 13, 2013. What did you guys think of the trailer?
