The original Predator movie is one of my favorite monster movies around, and despite the ups and downs (a lot of downs) in the franchise, I’ve always been eager for more. Nimrod Antal’s Predators film (which I can’t believe is already eight years old) is the last time we’ve seen the alien hunters on the big screen, but Shane Black’s film is supposed to take place BEFORE that, and after the events of the first two Predator films.
So yeah, it’s technically another sequel that’s supposed to fit in with everything, but at the same time, Fox is hoping to use The Predator to relaunch the franchise. It’s something I’ve been looking forward to quite a bit. Thankfully today brings us our first look at the film, and I’m digging it:
While it’s only a teaser and doesn’t give us the best look at how this film will fair overall, I’m pretty encouraged by what we see. The creature himself looks impressive and intimidating and the victims-I mean human characters, seem interesting enough. While I need a full theatrical trailer before I can really get my hype going, I think it’s a strong enough teaser to convince some doubters:
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
The Predator arrives in theaters on September 14, 2018.
