The Trailer for ‘Steven Universe: The Movie’ Reveals the Earth in Dire Peril

After much teasing and speculation, the first trailer for Steven Universe: The Movie has finally arrived, along with a confirmed release date.

Ever since Steven Universe: The Movie was teased at last years San Diego Comic-Con, fans of the series have been clamoring to know what the plot would be about. At last we have our answer with the first full trailer for the movie, which shows the Earth in peril like never before. While this isn’t exactly new for Steven Universe, the planet has never been this close to destruction before.

Steven Universe: The Movie appears to be the perfect continuation of Steven’s story after the climactic events that came at the end of season 5. Having jumped two years into the future, we’re getting to see an older, more grown-up Steven, who has to deal with a life that is turned upside down when the (still unnamed) villain suddenly arrives on Earth with a Gem injector, a device fans of the show will recognize immediately. For those who haven’t watched the show, these injectors were used to turn planets into breeding grounds for new Gems, decimating any existing life in the process. Whether or not that’s what’s happening is unclear, but it is made plain that the Earth will be destroyed if the process isn’t stopped. This could be the end of the world of Steven Universe as we know it. The stakes have literally never been so high as they are now. Given Steven’s reaction to these events, I’m not sure how well he’s going to handle all of this.

Steven comes back to earth hoping to pick back up his life with the Crystal Gems, but trouble looms suddenly from a mysterious figure. Steven Universe The Movie premieres on Cartoon Network on September 2!

Steven Universe: The Movie will premiere exclusively on Cartoon Network on September 2nd, 2019, and will later release on Blu-Ray/DVD.
