I love the Ninja Turtles, and I’ve spoken of this passion quite often, with the new film set to release in August, it’s been a little disconcerting that we’ve seen nothing of the new film, nor what the mutants will actually look like. Today, that all changes with the first teaser trailer for the film, and frankly…I’m kind of digging it:
Honestly, I think the Turtles look pretty decent in action, and way better than the promo materials that leaked out for it. While the interactions we see between them are brief, they exude the old school charm of the Turtles fans have come to expect and love about the characters. The problem with that, however, is that the rest of the trailer sets such a serious tone for the film, it’s hard to see how the wise-cracking Turtles will fit in. Hopefully, it’s just an issue of how the trailer was cut, rather than overall problems with the story.
As for the rest, I’m liking it. I’m not totally down with the implication that the Shredder (Fitchner) may be behind the creation of the Turtles, but I’ll reserve judgement for that, until after I’ve seen it all in context. It may not be a mind-blowing trailer, but I can honestly say I liked what I saw and feel way more comfortable about the movie than before.
The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will rise from the sewers on August 8, 2014. What do you guys think about the trailer? Did it give you new hope, or only cement the fears you already had? Let us know in the comments!
