The Wachowski’s Bring the Goods in First Trailer for Jupiter Ascending

While Cloud Atlas (the Wachowski’s last film) didn’t exactly fire up the box office, it’s a movie I thoroughly enjoyed.  It brought together an incredible cast and weaved a story through time that really spoke to you.  While hardly anyone else saw the damn thing, it proved to me once again that Lana and Andy Wachowski are filmmakers to admire and keep an eye on.  That being said, I’ve been very eager to see what they would do with Jupiter Ascending.  Since the film was announced we knew it was set to be a big budget hard science fiction film…which I’m a total sucker for:

This trailer is just gorgeous.  While it didn’t give me as much on the story side of things like I wanted, visually it’s stunning and has me wiping up the drool from my desk.  Knowing how these directors work, I’m not overly concerned about the story and am confident they can nail it in that area as well.

I’ve watched this thing several times now and I’m still amazed at all the things going on in it.  It looks like a grand space opera, and I can’t wait to see more from it.

Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

Jupiter Ascending hits theaters on July 25, 2014.  What do you guys think of the trailer? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments below!
