Now that Entertainment Weekly has released their first look photos for Thor: Ragnarok, there is a real possibility that the trailer won’t be too far awar. At least, that’s what we’re hoping after seeing today’s intriguing pics, featuring a new look for our favorite Norse God.
EW’s photos give us our first look at, not only Chris Hemsworth‘s new hairdo but also, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie.
Along with the Gladiator-esque photos, the EW article also gives a detailed synopsis for Ragnarok, explaining that an accident causes the Goddess of Death, Hela, to be freed from her prison. After an altercation, she sends Thor through a wormhole that drops him on a planet called Sakaar. Here, he is forced to become a gladiator and must defeat the planet’s champion, The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).
“[Sakaar is] basically where every wormhole across the universe dumps out its trash, so you get people from all walks of life with all sorts of incredible abilities and powers,” Hemsworth explains. “No one cares what prince or king Thor may have been in another world. Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst.”
If you think this sounds a lot like Planet Hulk, you wouldn’t be wrong. In the comic, Planet Hulk, Hulk leaves Earth and finds himself on a desolate planet where he becomes a gladiator and takes on the establishment. Ragnarok seems to be an adaptation of that story.
Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi and will arrive in theaters, later this year, on November 3, 2017!
