A couple days ago, twitter user @AgentTrainee tweeted the following photo, apparently snagged from the front page of Tarantino’s next script.
Well details were scarce at the time, the title was later proven accurate, as Anne Thompson at IndieWire later confirmed. So the newly named Django Unlimited was revealed to be Quentin Tarantino’s new project. For most, that little scrap of information would be enough. But remember, it’s Tarantino Christmas. And there was just more to come.
Not only has Christoph Waltz been attached, but a full plot description has been revealed. Tarantino’s agency described the film as:
“…A western whose lead character is a former slave who is in league with Waltz to save his wife from an evil plantation owner.”
This follows in line with a previous plot description rumored to be about the film:
Django is a freed slave, who, under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter (Christopher Waltz) becomes a bad-ass bounty hunter himself, and after assisting Waltz in taking down some bad guys for profit, is helped by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and liberating her from an evil plantation owner. And that doesn’t even half begin to cover it! This film deals with racism as I’ve rarely seen it handled in a Hollywood film. While it’s 100 percent pure popcorn and revenge flick, it is pure genius in the way it takes on the evil slave owning south. Think of what he did with the Nazis in Inglorious and you’ll get a sense of what he’s doing with slave owners and slave overseers in this one.
Well this is all we know about the film for now, you can bet we’ll keep you posted on all furthur developments. I mean, how badass does this film sound? Hopefully, it will live up to Tarantino’s pedigree.
