Nearly 21 years ago, during the heydey of former action-superstar Arnold Schwarzeneggar, sci-fi die-hards were introduced to the mind-bending, space-travelling adventure known as Total Recall. Though the film itself wasn’t a critical smash, it did set a new bar in 1990 for visual effects and has found a cult following in home media. But it wouldn’t behoove Hollywood to go quietly into that dark night without retracing its original steps yet again.
Amongst the deluge of retreades, remakes, rehashes, and refried films heading our way, Box Office Mojo has revealed the release date for the Colin Farell headlined remake of Total Recall. On August 3rd, 2012, we’ll get to see a whole new level of action as Colin Farell follows in the Mars-frozen footsteps of the Governator. Reportedly, the development team is taking the film in an entirely new direction, so we’ll have to wait and see if this will be a feather in Colin’s hat as he secures his place amongst true action stars, or just another Pathfinder.
Look for Total Recall to be competing with Matt Damon in The Bourne Legacy, sure to be an action-packed weekend. Personally though, when it comes to space-faring rights activists, my money’s on the amnesiac assassin.
