The end of today’s episode of The Mandalorian revealed yet another spin-off from the show will be coming this time next year!
[Note: If you haven’t watched today’s season two finale of The Mandalorian be careful. This news comes from the show’s post-credits scene so could technically be considered a spoiler.]
The Mandalorian wrapped up it’s sophomore season with an action packed finale (just check out our latest recap), but the end gave us something else to look forward to. The post-credits scene, showing Boba Fett return to Tatooine with Fennec Shand. After clearing out Jabba’s Palace (or is it Bib’s now), Boba unceremoniously kills Bib Fortuna and claims the dais/throne for himself.
It’s a cool scene, but sets up the reveal for “The Book of Boba Fett.” The show, which has been filming for the past month is set to debut on Disney Plus in December 2021…And that’s about all we know.
To be honest, this is a series I’d heard about for a little while now (with many other media reporters) and was surprised to see it wasn’t announced with the other Star Wars shows from the Investor’s Day deluge. I guess they were waiting to announce the project with this fun end-of-season teaser!
Not entirely sure what The Book of Boba Fett will cover, but I’d initially heard the story would show off his escape from the Sarlaac while filling in some of the gaps for what he’s been up to before his appearance in The Mandalorian. This tease, however, clearly shows him AFTER the finale. Perhaps the show will go back and forth in time, showing what came before and what Boba is doing next.
From the looks of it, he’s set to takeover Jabba’s criminal empire, which could show fans the darker/underworld side of the galaxy far, far away. It’s exciting nonetheless to know we’ll have this and another season of The Mandalorian to look forward to in 2021.
No word on other details or how long this will be (I’m guessing it’ll be a short limited/event series), but I’m hoping an official announcement will clear some of that up. Considering it’s connection to the episode itself, I’m betting we’ll have to wait until Mando Monday for more details.
What do you hope to see from The Book of Boba Fett?
