There will soon be a new superhero to help Batwoman in Gotham, as the show has revealed a first look at the imminent arrival of Batwing.
Season 2 of Batwoman has been roaring along since Javicia Leslie arrived to pick up the mantle of the Scarlet Knight and shows no signs of slowing down. This is evident from the news the show revealed just today: the imminent arrival of Batwing in Gotham, to be played by Camrus Johnson, aka Luke Fox, Batwoman’s eyes and ears in the Batcave.
In the comics, two people have worn the mantle of Batwing. The first was David Zavimbe, who worked with Batman through Batman Incorporated. The second Batwing though…was Luke Fox! For this reason, there has been an assumption since season 1 that at some point Luke Fox would be assuming the mantle of Batwing to aid and assist Batwoman. Seeing these rumors realized in this first look is very exciting, and actor Camrus Johnson was overwhelmed at the opportunity to play Batwing onscreen:
“Honestly, it’s hard to explain how much it means to me to wear the Batwing suit and officially play my first superhero,” Johnson said in The CW’s press release. “The main reason I wanted to be in Batwoman was for this opportunity – to give kids like me another black hero to look up to and relate to. It’s hard not to smile when I catch myself in the mirror with the bat symbol on my chest, and I’ll keep smiling through every fight scene, every awesome stunt, and every Gotham night where Batwing is finally in the field!”
It’s not been stated when Batwing will be officially arriving on Batwoman, though it has been made clear that it will be before the end of season 2. I for one am thrilled that another superhero is joining Team Batwoman and I can’t wait to see Batwoman and Batwing work together onscreen.
Season 2 of Batwoman is currently airing Sundays at 9pm on the CW.
