Marty Adelstein in a joint venture with ITV Studio is going to take a crack at doing a live-action adaptation of the 1998 Japanese animated series Cowboy Bebop. Cowboy Bebop, a 26 episode anime series is a story set in the year 2071 and follows the adventures of a Bounty Hunter crew aboard the Starship Bebop.
Bebop considered one of the best anime series of all time has had major success in Japan and internationally, mainly in the United States where it is credited with helping to introduce anime to a new wave of Western viewers in the early 2000s. The series has won major anime and science fiction awards and also received much praise for its style, characters, story, voice acting, animation, and soundtrack.
this, however, is not the first time that Cowboy Bebop and the word live action has been used together. In 2008 a live action movie was in development by 20th Century Fox and Keanu Reeves was supposed to play the role of Spike Spiegel. The movie was slated for a 2011 release but budget problems delay production. By 2013 all mention of the live-action movie had pretty much died.
It seems the idea of a film is gone but Tomorrow Studios, Marty Adelstein in conjunction with the anime’s original animation studio, Sunrise, and ITV Studios Are working together to breathe life into this Live Action project.
Personally, I’m more of a Robotech guy, but when I talked to my friends about this they were more than excited about the news. However, they all had the same thing to say about it “I’ll believe they’re making a series when I’m watching it.”
