Disney has finally found their Ms. Marvel for their new Disney+ series! The search wasn’t easy, nor was it fast, but in an effort to find the actress that could properly represent the Pakistani superhero, they left no stone unturned. Which led them to casting an acting newcomer.
According to Deadline, Iman Vellani will make her acting debut as the title character, Ms. Marvel, in the upcoming Disney+ series. They’ve also hired Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Meera Menon as directors for the series.
Ms. Marvel, a.k.a. Kamala Khan, first appeared in Marvel Comics in 2014 from writer G. Willow Wilson. Khan is a Muslim Pakistani-American teenager who hails from New Jersey. She eventually gains the power of super strength, speed, healing, and most notably morphing her body to gigantic proportions.
While she first appeared in 2014, Ms. Marvel gained even more exposure in Square Enix & Crystal Dynamics‘ 2020 Marvel’s Avengers. Now, she’ll be the first Muslim hero represented on screen. Moreover, Marvel Studios Chief Kevin Feige mentioned previously that Ms. Marvel would also be appearing in Marvel films.
There is no official word on when filming takes place or when the series will premiere. As more news releases on Ms. Marvel and all future Disney+ shows, we’ll have it here.
