Today brings our first look at the newest adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel, The Stand, which arrives on CBS All Access later this year.
Stephen King’s hellish post-apocalyptic world of The Stand comes back to life with an all new limited series from CBS All Access. The story already had a mini-series adaptation back in the day, and has had a long and winding road back to the screen.
For the longest time, Warner Bros was attempting to deliver a film version. At one point Ben Affleck was attached to direct, then Josh Boone (New Mutants) was hired to direct and potentially deliver on a four movie franchise, and then things went quiet for a long time….
Last year, CBS All Access announced they were developing a new 10-episode miniseries based on the novel, with each script written by Stephen King himself. With a cast including James Marsden (Stu Redman), Amber Heard (Nadine Cross), Odessa Young (Frannie Goldsmith), Henry Zaga (Nick Andros), and Alexander Skarsgard as the villainous Randall Flagg it seemed like the stars were finally aligning for this to happen.
Thanks to Vanity Fair, today brings our first (absolutely STUNNING) images from the upcoming series. Not only does this give us a look at the actors in character, it also lets us see the tone and attention to detail they’ve put into it.
I’m in love. Even in these still images, there are some fun nods to the source material and the production value looks incredible. While I don’t have CBS All Access, I think I’m going to have to subscribe whenever The Stand drops (sometime this year). I strongly encourage you to check out the full Vanity Fair article as they have some great quotes and insight on the upcoming series directly from the creators.
