HBO and the BBC are preparing to unleash a brand new television series, based on the novels by Philip Pullman. It’s called His Dark Materials and we finally have a teaser. See it within…
Philip Pullman‘s His Dark Materials is a fascinating trilogy that follows a young girl, Lyra, and her daemon, Pantalaimon, across a vast multiverse of worlds that consist of our own and a parallel world where humans are partnered up with animals bound to our individual souls, called daemons. The trilogy was so profound and well-written, it became a best-selling trilogy, thus garnering the attention of Hollywood.
In 2007, New Line Cinema attempted to adapt Philip Pullman‘s trilogy for film. That film ended up being known as The Golden Compass and starred Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. It wound up being an epic flop.
Now, HBO and BBC are taking a crack at the story, but this time it’s being developed as a series under the original name, His Dark Materials. Check out the first teaser.
Adapting Philip Pullman’s award-winning trilogy of the same name, which is considered a modern masterpiece of imaginative fiction, the first season follows Lyra, a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Her search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets Will, a determined and courageous boy. Together, they encounter extraordinary beings and dangerous secrets, with the fate of both the living — and the dead — in their hands.
His Dark Materials is set to release later this year, though no specific date has been announced yet. That said, the teaser alone looks like a major upgrade from the 2007 film.
As more details surrounding His Dark Materials are revealed, we’ll have them here.
