First Titans Trailer Takes a Darker Approach to the Teen Titans

If you thought the Snyder-verse was dark, just wait until your eyes feast upon the TITANS tv show.  The first trailer has released, just hours before the first official day of SDCC 2018, and from what we can tell…these aren’t the fun-loving Teen Titans you’ve come to know and love.

TITANS follows young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find belonging in a gritty take on the classic Teen Titans franchise.

It’s no secret that San Diego Comic Con 2018 is DC‘s time to shine, since Disney decided not to attend.  With last night’s Joker reveal and today’s TITANS trailer, they are already starting to dominate the news feed, well ahead of their Saturday panel appointment.  While the Joker announcement was cool and promising, this TITANS trailer gives little hope, and that’s coming from a major Teen Titans fan.  Everything from the CGI, to the character portrayals, to Robin blatantly cursing out Batman just feels wrong.  I understand that Dick Grayson grows tired of playing second fiddle to Batman and becomes Nightwing, but chill bro. This looks like DC’s answer to the gritty Netflix shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, but for those heroes it makes sense.  It’s questionable that they’d take this approach, which is polar opposite to the fun-loving team newer fans have come to know.  Heck, even the original anime-style, more teenage minded show, while dark, had plenty of levity.

TITANS is supposed to be one of the flagship shows on the new DC Universe app, releasing August 2018.  Pre-order for the subscription is available now, here.
