Let it be known that the best way to get information out of Game of Thrones show creators, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss is to put them on a UFC podcast. In a recent episode, hosted by Jim Norton and Matt Serra, the duo revealed that Season 7 (and likely Season 8) won’t be starting during its normal April premiere date.
The reason behind the move is simple, Winter Has Come.
“We don’t have an air date yet, but next year will probably be a little bit later. We’re starting a little bit later because, you know, the end of the season ‘Winter is here,’ and that means sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes anymore. So we kind of pushed everything down the line so we can get some grim grey weather, even in the sunnier places we shoot.” said Weiss.
As tough as it may be for Game of Thrones fans to learn that not only are there two shortened seasons left to the series and that they have to wait even longer for it, it makes sense. Every season has been setting up to this point. From the first time the words, “Winter is Coming” were uttered. Weiss, Benioff, and the rest of the cast and crew are just waiting for the right conditions in several different regions to bring Winter to the screen.
For those wondering if the Song of Fire and Ice books are still worth reading, the creators provided some knowledge that should make readers excited.
“The books are so different from the series now.”
The podcast is definitely worth a listen. Weiss and Benioff reveal a few more nuggets, as well as their UFC prowess!
