Ellie and Joel’s story from The Last of Us is getting an adaptation in the form of a new TV series coming from HBO!
If you’re a fan of The Last of Us, there’s some good news for you this morning. HBO is developing a series based on the acclaimed game, that will finally bring Joel and Ellie’s story of the post-apocalypse to a new audience. While a film was in the works at one point (with Maisie Williams at one point set to star) the last update we had on it was back in 2016, and even that was to say nothing was happening with it!
Thanks to a report from THR, fans now have something new to look forward to! Craig Mazin, the creator behind the highly acclaimed Chernobyl series, is on board to adapt The Last of Us, working right alongside the game’s writer/director, Neil Druckmann. From the sounds of it, Sony/Naughty Dog will be working closely with HBO on this series as the developer’s president, Evan Wells, will be executive producing as well.
Mazin had this to say about the project: “Neil Druckmann is without question the finest storyteller working in the video game medium, and The Last of Us is his magnum opus. Getting a chance to adapt this breathtaking work of art has been a dream of mine for years, and I’m so honored to do it in partnership with Neil.”
As a long time fan of this game, I’m can’t begin to tell you how excited I am about this. HBO has churned out some of the best TV series around and I’m anxious to see how they adapt this story for a new medium. There’s no word on a release date yet, so now’s the time to start your fan-casting!
If you need something while you wait for the show, don’t forget The Last of Us: Part II arrives on May 29, 2020.
