A few months ago, we were thrilled to report that a Judge Dredd TV show was in the works at IM Global. What we didn’t know at the time was who would be playing our favorite judge. The odds were that it would probably be a new person, but the hopes were it would be an actor and a story that would do the character justice, like Karl Urban did in his 2012 representation.
Well a quote collected from comicbook.com, and taken at the Star Trek Las Vegas Convention, had Karl Urban revealing this interesting bit of news:
“I am in discussions with them about that,” Urban revealed. “I told them that if they write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function, I will be there. I would love to.”
There you have it! If the Comic/TV Gods are good, we could have Karl Urban reprise his role as the titular character in the TV series Judge Dredd: Mega City One, which is in development at IM Global.
Although, while getting Urban to sign on the dotted line may be a priority, an even bigger one could be finding out which network will be hosting your Judge Dredd series. If it’s premium cable or a streaming service, we could be getting the awesome The Raid meets Judge Dredd 2012 version. If it’s part of the major networks or Syfy, we could be getting closer to Sylvester Stallone‘s cheesy, helmet-removing, Rob Schneider-filled, I AM THE LAW version.
What network would you like to see it on? Would Karl Urban be your dream (re)casting?
