5 Star Wars Characters We’d Love to See in the Kenobi Series

With an Obi-Wan Kenobi live-action series coming to Disney+, the possibilities for some fan favorite characters to pop up are abundant. Here, we take a look at five characters we’d love to see in the show!

When Kathleen Kennedy (blessedly) took the stage at D23 to officially announce a new Kenobi series (with Ewan McGregor returning to the role), my mind began racing at the possibilities of the story. We know the show takes place eight years after Revenge of the Sith, and that the scripts are already completed but that’s about it.

As such, it’s a great time for some fun speculation about what we could potentially see when the show arrives in a couple years. Personally speaking, more than the story, I’m keenly interested to see what characters will be making an appearance in the series.

Sure, we’re working in a specific period of time, but familiar locations open up the opportunity for familiar faces to pop up. Whether it’s a cameo or something more, here are five characters I’d love to see in the live-action series:

Qui-Gon Jinn

Let’s get one of the more likely options out of the way (maybe). At the end of Revenge of the Sith, Yoda tells Obi-Wan about Qui-Gon Jinn’s ability to reach out through the Force from beyond the grave, and that he’ll have training to do while exiled on Tatooine. Thanks to the From a Certain Point of View book, we also know that Qui-Gon has appeared to Kenobi as a Force Ghost at least a handful of times to dole out advice, much like Kenobi turns around and does for Luke.

Because of this, it’s seems well within the realm of possibility that we could see Qui-Gon pop up to give his former padawan some much needed advice during the series. Ideally, it’d be great to have Liam Neeson come back to reprise the role and see these two back on the screen once more. It’d be a neat way to connect directly to the Prequel series, while still offering something new.

Beru & Owen Lars

I know I’m technically cheating here by including TWO characters in this, but really, what would either of these characters be without the other around? Luke’s adopted parents work great as a team, and considering Kenobi’s mandate of protecting the child of Anakin it makes sense that these characters would show up.

Even better, both Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse (who portrayed the younger versions of the characters in the Prequels) have stated they’d love to return to the roles if the chance ever came. I’d love to see more of how their dynamic works. While some of the Legends material covered a bit of this, I would like to see if there were any specific incidents that saw the Lars’ keep Kenobi at a distance.

That said, I really DON’T want to see a young Luke in the show. I have a few reasons for this, but ultimately I think that type of cameo has the potential to come off more forced/hokey than anything else.

Darth Maul

I’m not putting Darth Maul on this list just because he’s my favorite character, the primary basis of my collection for 20 years, and I want to see more of him…Well, all right, maybe I am. That said, however, there’s definitely still potential for an interesting story to be told about these long-time rivals.

Yes, Star Wars Rebels gave us an ending to the story, with Maul finding Kenobi on Tatooine, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the only time they met/fought during the Jedi’s self-imposed exile. All we know from Rebels is that Maul was desperately hunting for information on locating Kenobi; so he didn’t know about his Tatooine hiding spot.

If Kenobi ends up leaving Tatooine during the show, that leaves the chance for an encounter. Back when I first heard about Kenobi potentially being a movie (or even a trilogy), one of the ideas was that an issue off-planet ultimately called Kenobi away. Something big enough that it could ultimately prove a threat to young Luke, thereby justifying his leaving for a period of time. With Maul leading Crimson Dawn (thank you Solo!) who’s to say Kenobi doesn’t run afoul of the crime syndicate….

Asajj Ventress

Now, we’re getting into some fun wishes here! One of the first things I EVER heard about a potential Kenobi film (years ago) was that it would feature flashbacks to the Clone Wars. This would open the door to a ridiculous amount of cool cameos in the series, but if flashbacks are on the table, I’m crossing my fingers for Asajj Ventress.

Ventress and Kenobi battled fiercely, both against and alongside each other, throughout the Clone Wars and their encounters were always memorable. Filled with innuendo and witty banter, the chemistry between the characters was undeniable, and the potential for a more…interesting story was certainly there (something that was even explored in the old Dark Horse comics).

While Ventress’ story came to an end (sadly) in the Dark Disciple novel, flashbacks in the Kenobi series could finally give fans of the character a live-action interpretation of the character. As someone who’s loved the character since her creation in the original Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars series, I’d lose my mind over seeing her in live-action.

Duchess Satine

Speaking of potential love interests, we can’t ignore Duchess Satine and the history between the two alluded to in The Clone Wars. It’s a story fans have been eager to learn more about, especially considering Kenobi’s by-the-book Jedi attitude seems completely at odds with falling in love…

I mean, if we end up getting Clone Wars flashbacks, why not go back even further? We could see his earlier days as a Padawan under Qui-Gon and the Mandalorian civil war that ultimately brought himself and Satine closer together. Granted, this seems like it’d be more difficult to incorporate into the story of Kenobi on Tatooine, but I’d love to see it happen.

Other Options

There’s a wealth of Star Wars characters who could pop up in the Kenobi Disney+ series. The five I’ve gone over above are the ones I’d love to see happen most, but there are a few others I think it would be neat to see with a decent shot of happening:

Jabba the Hutt

Boba Fett

Qi’ra (I mean, she’d be there with Maul, right?!)

Commander Cody

Bail Organa

Who knows what the Kenobi series will bring. Perhaps we’ll get nothing but new characters (the old hermit being the exception) to fall in love with. If we get some cameos, however, who would you like to see pop up during the series?
