After a series of highs and lows, the unexpectedly long life of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will come to an end after season 7 next year.
That Marvel’s first primetime television show is coming to an end is a surprise to no one. What is a surprise is that this show managed to last so long. The show launched in 2013 with an incredibly bumpy start, yet somehow managed to secure last-minute renewals every year. Now, however, the ride is finally coming to an end according to Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel TV:
…we can actually build a season that will tie up any threads that are there. To make sure that we come to a conclusion that’s satisfying to the fans, to the cast, to Marvel, and to ABC. When you know that’s what you’re doing, you can take greater risks, of life and death. Those kinds of decisions suddenly now are real on the table because you’re not playing how do we undo this when we get to the next season. You’re playing that this is going to be the end of the story.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is currently airing its sixth season on Friday nights on ABC.
