Over the course of Star Trek‘s illustrious run, there have been many extraordinary captains to lead their crew where no crew has gone before. One of those iconic captain is making a comeback. The animated kids show Star Trek: Prodigy has recruited Star Trek: Voyager‘s Captain Janeway.
During Star Trek‘s global panel event, First Contact Day, the series executive producers Kevin and Dan Hageman (Trollhunters and Ninjago) made the announcement with Kate Mulgrew, who will be reprising her legendary role. The panel confirmed that Captain Janeway will serve as the Star Trek: Prodigy starship’s built in emergency training hologram. So, it’s unclear how prevalent her role will be, but this is Star Trek so emergencies do happen often.
The synopsis for Star Trek: Prodigy is as follows:
Star Trek: Prodigy follows a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search for a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered – a first in the history of the Star Trek Franchise – but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.
Developed and produced by Nickelodeon and CBS Studios, Star Trek: Prodigy will premiere on Paramount+ in the U.S. later this year.
