Stephen Amell Wants Arrow to be Part of the DC Cinematic Universe

The tentatively titled Batman vs. Superman is not only introducing a new Batman in the form of Ben Affleck, it is also giving us cinematic versions of Wonder Woman, the Flash and Nightwing (the last two only rumored so far).   DC/Warner Bros. is planning to eventually expand their cinema-verse Marvel style, with lots of different franchises connecting to each other. Stephen Amell wants Arrow to be part of that.

Amell, who is currently filming the second season of Arrow, thinks that his show could fit into the larger DC film universe, the way Agents of SHIELD fits into the Marvel universe. In the weekly ‘Quiver’ podcast, Amell says of the characters in Arrow:

Of course, I would like them to have a shared universe. We are trying to put them on a level where if Warner Bros. and DC Comics decided they wanted them to be part of the movies, people would buy it. I think that the characters we are creating in our universe can stand next to Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot.

Although Arrow executive producer Greg Berlanti has refuted the idea that Arrow will be connected to the film universe, Amell hasn’t given up hope. Now that a Flash series is being spun off from Arrow, people are wondering if the TV Flash (Grant Gustin) will be the film Flash. If Gustin makes it into the Man of Steel sequel or the Justice League film, that would connect Arrow’s TV continuity to the DC movie continuity. If so, Arrow could begin to play a part in the greater DC Universe. Only time will tell if Amell will get his way.
