Underworld 4 gets a very ‘Twilight-esque’ title and a plot description

Underworld: New Dawn.  That’s the title.  Sounds kind of Twilight-ish to me, but a big part of me is sure that’s what they were going for.  Both franchises deal with vampires versus werewolves (or what Underworld calls Lycans), so it seems only logical for the studio to try and capitalize on that common ground to maybe pull in some of that crowd.  Anyway, here’s the official plot synopsis that was conjured up:

After being held in a coma-like state for fifteen years, vampire Selene (Kate Beckinsale) learns that she has a fourteen-year-old vampire/Lycan hybrid daughter, Nissa, and when she finds her they must stop BioCom from creating super Lycans that will kill them all.

Not bad.  Sounds interesting and at last moves the franchise forward in time once again.  Rise of the Lycans wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either.  I think a big thing that hurt it, was the setting.  Part of the fun of the first film is seeing how these supernatural creatures adapt to modern times (with the weapons and technology), so when they stripped that away, it wasn’t nearly as fun.  Besides the change of setting, I think we’re all forgetting the most exciting part of the fourth film: Kate Beckinsale is back….nuff said.

The movie is set to begin filming in March with a release date of January 20, 2012
