During Sundance, one of the films you likely heard the most about (in a positive way), was The Birth of a Nation. While the film doesn’t hit general theaters until October, today gives us our first look at why it had so many people buzzing.
This first teaser is pretty damn impressive, showing off some amazing cinematography along with a good helping of tension and tone setting. Personally, I can’t wait to see more.
Set against the antebellum South, THE BIRTH OF A NATION follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities – against himself and his fellow slaves – Nat orchestrates and uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.
The Birth of a Nation hits theaters on October 7, 2016.
