We’re always told that persistance pays off. If you don’t succeed the first time, try again until you do. The same is true in movies. Remakes and reboots are the Hollywood equivalent to giving it another go. Sometimes movies don’t connect with their intended audiences as expected yet there is still enough interest to merit another film. This is the case with the upcomming film Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.
Shadow Recruit is an attempt to reboot the 90’s franchise based on the character Jack Ryan from a number of novels written by the late Tom Clancy. The last Jack Ryan movie was 2002’s The Sum of All Fears, which itself was an attempt at a reboot. However, that film had the unfortune of being released post 9/11 when audiences didn’t really want to watch a film about terrorism. Today, having experienced the Bourne trilogy and the reborn James Bond, audiences may be more receptive. Here is our first chance to see what the film has in store.
The Jack Ryan franchise had always seemed like an attempt to give America its own version of a James Bond franchise. This new trailer shows us that the new film should be headed in the same direction, with a few wrenches thrown in to keep you on your toes. Director Kenneth Branagh seems to be channeling the same dark, cold tones he used in his last film, Thor while highlighting gritty action. Chris Pine takes over as the titular character and has some big shoes to fill as the role was previously played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck. The official synopsis is as follows;
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is expected to be released in theaters in December, but an official release date has not been announced.
