Man Of Steel was the beginning of what we now call the DCEU, the DC Expanded Universe. With small easter eggs for fans hinting at a Batman and many more of the DC comicbook characters. The film was met with mixed to positive reviews for the most part. As the world expanded through the films sequels with Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and now on the heels of Wonder Woman, it looks like WB is ready for the official sequel to the solo Superman film. With the prospect of a Man of Steel 2 they have already set their eyes on a new director to join the universe. None other then Kingsman: The Secret Service helmer, Matthew Vaughn.
Collider is reporting that Vaughn is the top prospect for the project and early talks have already begun. Collider cautions that there is no deal in place, and this is nothing more then early talks about whether or not the director would be interested in taking the job.
Vaughn has seemed to have a different take on Superman that the current Man Of Steel has shown us. When asked about an early idea for Superman that Vaughn had with his Kick-Ass writing partner Mark Millar, Vaughn seemed to want pretty much the opposite of our current hero. He told MTV back into 2010:
“I think that’s the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious The Dark Knight version. Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me.”
Obviously these were his ideas well before Man Of Steel got off the ground and running but it seems like the version of Superman that most fans continue to say they want. This would not be Vaughn’s first time in the comicbook world, as Kingsman was a huge success, as was X-Men: First Class that Vaughn directed. I think Vaughn would be a great fit for the universe, and someone who could honestly set WB/DC on a better path.
