Just ahead of Christmas, Warner Bros. has announced a handful of upcoming release dates, including one for the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel.
Just a couple months ago, word came out that George Miller had cast Anya Taylor-Joy as the younger version of the bad-ass Imperator played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road. The casting (which also includes Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) signaled that the prequel was further along in development than many of us expected and now, WB has gone ahead and set a release date for George Miller’s Furiosa: June 23, 2023.
While that’s still a few years away, it’s exciting to have a new story set in the Mad Max world to mark down on the calendars (and set to go into production in the near future). The announcement comes along with a pair of other movie release dates:
Coyote vs. Acme (a live-action/animation hybrid based on the Looney Tunes character) is set to release on July 21, 2023. A new version of The Color Purple (this time based on the Broadway musical) is dated for December 23, 2023…which will put it up against the next big Star Wars movie in theaters, Rogue Squadron.
While WB has made waves by announcing their 2021 film slate will arrive day-and-date on HBO Max as well as theaters, they emphasize that these release dates given are for theatrical launches.
