The newest look at Scooby Doo was set to hit theaters in March, but now it looks like it will be heading to VOD.
SCOOB! gives a new look at the early days of the pup named Scooby Doo. Originally set for release in September, before being pushed back to May 15th 2020. While WB had then put it on the shelf indefinitely during the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tuesday they announced that the film will now be released on VOD.
Speaking about the decision to release the film on VOD, Warner Bros CEO Ann Sarnoff said:
“While we’re all eager to be able to once again show our films in theaters, we’re navigating new, unprecedented times which call for creative thinking and adaptability in how we distribute our content, – We know fans are eager to see ‘SCOOB!’ and we’re delighted we can deliver this feel-good movie for families to enjoy while they’re home together.”
“SCOOB!” is looking to be the first installment of a cinematic universe featuring Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters, and will be available for a 48-hour rental for $19.99 or to own for $24.99 beginning on May 15th. It is directed by Tony Cervone, and stars Frank Welker as Scooby-Doo with Will Forte, Zac Efron, Gina Rodriguez and Amanda Seyfried playing Shaggy, Fred, Velma and Daphne. Mark Wahlberg, Jason Isaacs, Kiersey Clemons, Ken Jeong and Tracy Morgan also star.
