Well crap. This definitely isn’t something many were expecting to hear about. Patty Jenkins’ upcoming Wonder Woman 1984, which has been filming since June, will no longer be releasing in November next year. Instead, WB has pushed it back six months and will now arrive on June 5, 2020.
For fans of the character, it’s definitely a bummer, but I wouldn’t be concerned by it either. This is roughly when the first film released last year and broke all sorts of box office records. Putting the sequel into a Summer slot shows confidence from the Studios in the film’s ability to stand out in a crowded market, while also giving Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker film (slated for October 4, 2019) room to breathe.
Alas, we’ll have to wait just a little bit longer to see the Amazonian battle it out with her iconic foe, Cheetah. Time to re-mark you calendars!
