Worlds Collide in the First Trailer for The Dark Tower

It’s been a LONG wait for this movie trailer for a film that’s been oft delayed and took years (and multiple movie studios) to finally be brought to life.  Considering the film is set to release on August 4th, many of us fans have been slightly worried at the lack of trailer/marketing so far…But it’s finally here:

I’m digging this trailer so hard I’m going to need another shovel, and I think it does exactly what it needs to.  The Dark Tower story is a complicated one and since this film is taking place AFTER the books, but along with them (like I said, complicated), it could be difficult to rope in audiences who aren’t as enamored with the Stephen King saga.  As such, this trailer does a great job of simplifying the ideas, pointing out the bad thing that must be stopped without delving too deeply into it.  Perfect for newcomers.

For fans, there are OODLES of neat tidbits to pick apart and I found myself jumping at each little nod to the book that’s sprinkled throughout.  It’s most definitely a solid first trailer that manages to hook you (though myself and other long time fans are dying for a little more).  What did you think of our first look?

There are other worlds than these. Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen. The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.

The Dark Tower hits theaters on August 4, 2017
