The museum released a tweet showing the latest additions to the hall of fame. The games include Halo: Combat Evolved, Pokemon Red/Green, Street Fighter II, and Donkey Kong. So technically only 4 games made the list if you consider the two Pokemon titles to be the same game.
The selection came after 12 finalists were listed earlier in the year including games like Final Fantasy, Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, Solitaire, Myst and others.
Previous entries into the Hall of Fame include Doom, Grand Theft Auto III, The Legend of Zelda, The Oregon Trail, Pac-Man, Pong, The Sims, Sonic the Hedgehog, Space Invaders, Super Mario Bros., Tetris, and World of Warcraft. All from previous selections in 2015 and 2016.
All of these games are on display at The Strong museum.
Games are selected based on criteria that includes being iconic, longevity, and geographical reach. Other aspects include some game design mechanics and their impact on pop culture.
