There were reports that writer/director of the Uncharted games on PS3 had left Naughty Dog. She had just celebrated ten years with the company and was looking to write another game for the PS4. This overall made the rumor seem questionable, but Sony has confirmed it.
“We can confirm that Amy Hennig has left Naughty Dog. Amy has made significant contributions to the game industry and we appreciate all she has done for Naughty Dog. The development timeline of Uncharted will not be impacted,” Sony noted to IGN.
Rumor has it that she was actually forced out by fellow writers of The Last of Us, Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley. This rumor can be confirmed or denied when they either take the lead on the next Uncharted game, or don’t.
A lot of gamers may not know her name, but people should remember that writers a huge part of what makes a game so great. Kojima does it with Metal Gear, and overall writing is what helped The Last of Us win so many aways. Uncharted is pretty well known for its interesting writing and stories, but seemed to have struggled with Uncharted 3. There are accounts that Amy had trouble writing around big set pieces for the 3rd game.
Perhaps this means Uncharted will go in a whole new direction?
Overall, Amy is a rather talented person with several amazing games on her resume, surely another studio will pick her up soon. If anything, perhaps Lara Croft could use some added help?
