If they are not making an anime game, Bandai Namco is making a game that will haunt our dreams. The next game under that umbrella is from Until Dawn developer, Supermassive Games, and will be the first time a game from their horror roster will be available on Xbox One and PC. Their game will be known as The Dark Pictures Anthology and will be a series of standalone cinematic horror games where every playable character can and will die, based on your decisions. Thus, creating a near-limitless array of outcomes that no one will see coming.
The first of the series will be The Dark Pictures – Man of Medan and the trailer kicks off the series at a terrifying pace…
The Dark Pictures – Man of Medan chronicles the adventures of a group of friends in search of a mysterious World War II shipwreck, whose holiday diving trip turns sinister as a storm slowly envelops them. With survival their only concern, the player must take control of the five protagonists and traverse the terrors of the sea, both to uncover its mysteries, and to live to tell their tale.
Both Bandai Namco and Supermassive Games are thrilled with the prospect of what this game could mean for the future of gaming and the horror genre itself. Why shouldn’t they be too? The Dark Pictures Anthology looks and sounds like an ambitiously terrifying idea that not only will be fun to play, but also fun to stream. With that many different choices, every view will be like a whole new movie, where everyone shares a different experience. Here’s what Bandai Namco and Supermassive Games have to say on the subject…
“We are incredibly excited to announce the Dark Pictures Anthology and the first game in the series – Man of Medan,” said Pete Samuels, CEO for Supermassive Games and Executive Producer for The Dark Pictures. “With each title being a standalone game, we have the opportunity to create a unique horror experience every time, with new stories, settings, characters and cast. As a studio we have a passion to deliver powerful cinematic horror, and we can’t wait for players to experience these new games across PS4, XBOX and PC. We have a great partner in BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment and we look forward to working with them to help bring these terrifying tales to gamers everywhere.”
“Horror anthologies have become incredibly popular in recent years, but this format has mostly been limited to the medium of TV — until now,” said Eric Hartness, Vice President of Marketing for BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. “With The Dark Pictures, we’re bringing this compelling method of storytelling into the world of video games, and letting gamers take control of their terror with an unprecedented level of interactivity. Man of Medan is our maiden voyage into the genre, and it’s a journey that players definitely won’t want to miss.”
The Dark Pictures – Man of Medan will be available in 2019 on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
