Blizzard is Working to Make Warcraft & Warcraft II Playable on Modern Systems

I grew up with the original Warcraft RTS games along with the old-school Command & Conquer games.  While EA made me incredibly happy with it’s 17th anniversary C&C collection that let’s me play those classic favorites of mine, Warcraft officianados haven’t had the same luxury.  I still have my old Warcraft games in their jewel cases, but modern PCs just won’t play them, and unless you’re hitting the ROMs, other gamers are in the same boat.

At this year’s BlizzCon, over the weekend during a Q&A with the fans, production director J. Allen Brack was asked if there was ever a chance of having those original games updated for modern systems.  Here’s his reply (from Polygon):

“So, we actually have a guy on our team — actually several guys on our team — who are actually working on a side project to do something like that in some form or fashion,” Brack said. “We’re fans of Warcraft 1, Warcraft 2, Warcraft 3, and we’d love to replay those games for sure.”

This is great news for us retro gamers, and I’m hoping we’ll see it sooner rather than later.  What I’m wondering though, is what he means by “Form or Fashion”.  Could this mean they’re working on a full HD remake of the classics, or perhaps they’re working on bringing them to the tablets and smartphones (which would be sweet).  Only time will tell, but at least we will see these at some point.  Now…if we could just get them to work on Warcraft 4.
