If there is one thing you have to love about Bungie and their Destiny franchise, it’s that they constantly develop and innovate. Today’s DLC reveal only strengthens that point, as the pioneers of the prolonged shooter genre have debuted the Destiny 2 Forsaken DLC that changes the layout of Destiny 2 to incredible degrees. New environments, new weapons, and a new story weren’t enough for them, this time. They needed to completely revamp the entire game, seemingly from the ground up, and the result is quite mind-blowing…
Following years of strife, what remains of the Reef has fallen to lawlessness. Players investigate the recent unrest and will explore new regions, awaken new powers, and earn powerful weapons.
The Destiny 2 Forsaken DLC will feature an all-new story that finds yourself in a new part of the reef, having to deal with a jailbreak. This uniquely original story, created by High Moon Studios, includes battles with what Bungie is calling the reverse “Magnificent 7”, the worst of the worst. Each new villain will have their own specific specialty and will help create a fun and lasting experience for veteran and new Destiny players, alike.
They didn’t stop there, though. With a new part of the galaxy, unlocked, comes a new Raid. The Raid will be featured within the Awaken home world, a place we’ve yet to go to, the ever-changing, mysterious Dreaming City. Details for the Raid are not yet available, but they did give us new information regarding what new weaponry and powers you might weild.
As shown in the trailer, Bungie has completely overhauled the weapons system in Destiny 2. Before, only certain weapon types could be weilded in each slot. Now, all bets are off. You want to have all shotguns or all swords, go for it. They’re pretty proud with what they’ve come up with and believe the customizing will make gamers invested in the weapons system again. Additionally, they’ve brought in a new weapon that is a bit questionable, until you see it in action. Destiny 2 will now include a legit Bow and Arrow weapon. That’s right. A Bow and Arrow and apparently it’s a tank. Furthermore, Bungie announced that the abilities for each class of Guardian will also change when Forsaken drops in September. From what we can tell, it looks like they are so different, you may have to rethink the guardians in your party.
Finally, Bungie created a new Crucible mode for fans of PvP and PvE, by incorporating a little bit of both into one game. It’s called Gambit and it pits two groups of 4 against each other in a race against time to gather enough material to summon and kill a giant Taken. Meanwhile, the rival team can send in one enforcer to knock out their opponents with one swift strike. Whichever team defeats their Taken enemy wins.
