Bungie Reviving Marathon As New Sci-Fi Extraction Game

Bungie dug into their vault and found Marathon which was showcased today at the PlayStation Showcase.

Announced today with a new website to go with it, Marathon is a new title from Bungie that isn’t exactly “new.”

become a runner in bungie’s new sci-fi pvp extraction shooter. compete for survival, riches, and renown in a world of evolving, persistent zones, where any run can lead to greatness.

Bungie is officially a PlayStation studio, but unlike Bethesda this game is being developed for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC with full crossplay across all platforms.

For those that don’t remember, Marathon was actually a game Bungie made before Halo and it was touted as a “Doom killer” at the time, but never really took off. Then of course Halo happened, and history was written.

“It’s not a direct sequel to the originals, but something that certainly belongs in the same universe and that feels like a Bungie game,” Barrett said via PlayStation Blog. “Finding those opportunities to nod to the universe’s lore, while also getting to build something different and new has been one of the best parts of developing this game so far.”
