If not for the COVID-19 pandemic, next week would’ve been one of video game’s biggest news releases of the year, E3 2020. Preceding that event, as they’ve done for a few years now, would’ve been Electronic Arts‘ interactive press conference EA Play. Despite E3 2020 being cancelled, EA was still set to deliver a games reveal next week.
However, now that has been delayed to the following week.
This delay stems from the unnecessary, untimely death of George Floyd, who was killed by law enforcement. His death and the death of many other black people have sparked protests and conversations in an effort to end systemic racism and racial injustice. Recently, Electronic Arts committed $1 million to the cause and created volunteer days for their employees. They’ve also been meeting with the black leadership group within the company to discuss other ways to instill change. They’ll be holding a company-wide meeting on June 9.
EA Play Live 2020 will now take place on June 18, 2020 at 4pm PDT/7pm EDT.
