JRPG Astria Ascending Releases in September, Developed by Final Fantasy Alumni

Today’s Nintendo Direct at E3 2021 gave us the release date for the JRPG Astria Ascending.

Today’s trailer introduces us to the game’s eight playable Demigods, the turn-based battle mechanics, skill point system, and weakness targeting with a teaser about the unique job system that allows each hero to showcase their individual skills.

“The Demi-gods are at the very heart of Astria Ascending,” said Game Director Julien Bourgeois. “Each has their own past, their own reasons to be there beyond wanting to save the world. It’s something we really dig into over the course of the story.”

Astria Ascending is being developed with contributions by JRPG developers: Narrative by Kazushige Nojima (Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy VII Remake), score by Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy XII, Vagrant Story), and art by Akihiko Yoshida and Hideo Minaba at CyDesignation.

“In a world where chaos looms, players take control of the Demigods – a motley crew of eight heroes charged with the fate of the world,” developers said. “Each character has their own story explored across five cities, 25 dungeons, and 30 hours of gameplay (or up to 50 hours for players pursuing 100 percent completion). Along with the finely tuned turn-based combat, players can try out a range of side quests and mini-games, including an original fantasy-themed token game.”

Astria Ascending is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on September 30.
