Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Gets 2D Events

This morning brings a new trailer for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, revealing all new events that bring back a classic style.

To be entirely honest, I’ve never cared for the Mario & Sonic at the Olympics series. I know many people love them, and plenty of the events are fun, it’s just not something I’ve been interested in. With today’s trailer, however, I feel my interest piqued:

The addition of the 2D events is just really damn cool. How they integrate the older sprites with the more modern looking characters is fun, making for a unique feeling style. The events themselves look like a lot of fun to play with. The game will include a total of 10-2D events to play through in addition to the 21-3D events:

10m Platform (Diving)
400m Hurdles
Gymnastics – Vault
Kayak Single (K-1) 1000m
Long Jump
Shooting – Trap
